Waco Police Investigate Downtown Homicide After Assault Victim Dies

Waco Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation following the death of Robert Navarro, 59. Navarro was discovered with a severe head injury on a downtown sidewalk early Tuesday morning and later died from his injuries on Friday. Officers responded to a call around 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday in the vicinity of South Fifth Street and Clay Avenue, where they located Navarro. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Investigators quickly identified a suspect, 36-year-old Jonathan Ready, using video evidence from the scene. Ready was arrested on Tuesday and charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony. Ready is currently being held in McLennan County Jail. His bail has been set at $250,000. No additional charges have been filed against Ready at this time.
