Waco Native Anthony Betters Sr. Honored for Community Leadership and Youth Mentorship

Waco is proud to celebrate Anthony Betters Sr., a true local leader who consistently gives back to his hometown. Betters has devoted extensive time to guiding young people within the city, driven by a deep understanding of Waco's unique challenges and a desire to uplift those around him. His commitment extends to his significant role with the Dr. Pepper Museum, where he served as the first Black board chair. During his tenure, Betters Sr. was instrumental in developing inclusive exhibits that highlight the diverse history of the Waco community, earning praise from nominators like Autumn Outlaw, who called him "an ambassador for Waco." Betters expressed that his motivation stems from his direct experience growing up in Waco. "I think just being from Waco and growing up in this community here and seeing some of the systemic issues that we’re faced with, that’s kind of the drive to just be a part of who I am," he stated. He actively participates in various organizations focused on supporting children in the area. Betters emphasized the importance of acknowledging those who mentored him, saying, "It’s so essential to me because those who raise guys like me and others, I want to just go back and celebrate those. And it also does pop-ups to where I’m in the park celebrating with some kids just, you know, paying somebody’s bill, just doing things like that." His remarkable contributions were recently acknowledged by Daniel Stark, a company dedicated to highlighting community heroes, who presented Anthony Betters Sr. with a $500 check in recognition of his selfless service.
