Waco ISD Enhances Campus Safety with New K-9 Officer, Greenbow

Waco Independent School District has announced a new addition to its police force: Greenbow, a K-9 officer specializing in narcotics detection. Starting this fall, Greenbow will be patrolling school grounds and parking lots to help maintain a drug-free environment. Greenbow will be partnered with Sergeant Larry Martinez of the Waco ISD Police Department, who will serve as his handler. Sgt. Martinez highlighted the K-9's role primarily as a deterrent, hoping its presence will keep illicit substances away from schools. Martinez noted the positive impact a K-9 can have, recalling how a previous K-9 contributed to a reduction in campus narcotics and was popular with students. He expects Greenbow to also foster positive interactions through various school programs and presentations. This summer, Sgt. Martinez and Greenbow will focus on building rapport and completing necessary training ahead of the new school year. Greenbow will reside full-time with Martinez, becoming a constant companion both at work and at home. While primarily serving Waco ISD, Greenbow's services will also be available to other agencies if needed.
